As many of you know, I’ve been traveling to Kansas City weekly since February
1. The ONLY airline that offered nonstop service to Kansas City from Boston was Midwest Airlines. I had never even really heard of this airline before, but booked with them anyway since I value a nonstop trip so much. I hate layovers, especially when the trip isn’t that far to begin with. I was expecting the absolute worst, but figured I can’t know for sure until I try it once.
My first trip on the airline occurred back in October of ‘06. As I boarded the airplane, I was IMMEDIATELY taken aback. The site before me was the exact
opposite of what I was expecting! Instead of the usual 3x3 seating, or 3x2 seating on most planes, this plane had a 2x2 configuration
2. You might be thinking,
so what? Big deal! Maybe it was a smaller plane that could only accommodate 2 seats on either side of the aisle. Nope, what made this configuration so special was that EVERY seat on the entire plane was a business class style seat. I’m talkin’ the large, all leather, super comfy lookin’ seats only the high rollers get to sit in. I couldn’t believe it! The WHOLE plane... filled with them.
So already, I’m completely thrilled with my flight. I’m goin’ nonstop (immediate plus),
and I’m essentially flyin’ in business class
3. As if that wasn’t enough, after they finished giving out drinks, I smelled something. I’m like, that’s an interesting smell... smells like someone in front of me is baking something. What an odd smell on an airplane. Turns out, someone
was baking something. Part of Midwest’s signature service includes “on-board baked” chocolate chip cookies! You get these suckers nice and hot, the chocolate still gooey! Holy moly! I’m in heaven!
I went from thinking a flight on Midwest was going to be complete hell, to thinking it’s THE best airline out there. In fact, I’m SO in love with Midwest, I actually would NOT mind a layover
just so I can fly their airline. My brother is going to be moving to San Diego later this year, and I’ve already racked up enough miles on Midwest that I should be able to get a free flight. Midwest flies to San Diego, but with a layover in Kansas City. I would actually rather do
that than book a nonstop flight straight to San Diego
4. THAT’s how much Midwest rocks. I think if you were to fly Midwest yourself, you would absolutely agree with me.
Recently, my membership level on Midwest graduated to Executive level. When that happened, Midwest actually sent me a really nice gift package. I got a nice leather travel wallet
5, and a day pass into their executive lounge in Milwaukee. This is a fairly small airline, and I thought this was a nice gesture on their part. I never once got anything of real value from any of the other much larger airlines I’ve graduated in “level” with.
I really can’t say enough good things about Midwest. I can only hope everyone reading this gets a chance to fly with them some day. I can’t recommend them enough. Fly Midwest!!!!! As their slogan says, and as I truly believe, they are The Best Care in the Air.

Also, in related Midwest news, apparently AirTran has been making an attempt at a hostile takeover of Midwest Airlines. There’s a website,
savethecookie.com, that is taking e-signatures on their online petition to help stop it. So if you
are a Midwest flier, you’re probably already aware of this. Save the cookie folks!! SAVE THE COOKIE!
1 Although, I took my FINAL trip last week! WOOHOO!!
2 2x2, as in 2 seats on either side of the aisle.
3 What really made it business class level for me, was that I got myself an Exit Row seat, so there was a ton of legroom. Might as well be business class... it’s just in the middle of the plane instead of the front.
4 Double the cookies too, since I’d be on two flights!
5 You know, one of those really long wallets that’s big enough to hold airplane tickets, and a whole bunch of credit cards and the like.
